How to Install Android OS on Your Computer: Part 1
Since its inception, Android was hailed by critics and users alike. This Google-born OS brought many innovative features to the end-users forcing other operating systems to do the same. With more than 850,000 devices being activated every day running on this slick yet powerful OS, Android is set to become the next big thing in smartphone world. Android is expecting the ICS update to many existing devices in upcoming months while company has made announcement that Android 5.0 (aka Jelly Bean) will be released in November.
Ok, I got carried away a bit but you’d be surprised if I tell you that you can install this operating system on your own laptops or netbooks running any of the Operating systems like Windows, Mac or Linux. The only thing which should be noted is that it can only be installed on 32-bit operating systems (X-86 architecture).

Now let us go through the installation process step by step. For the demonstrating purpose, we will use Android 2.2 aka Froyo version. So let’s get started right away.
Getting all the things ready:
1. Before we actually begin the installation, we will have all the things ready by our side so that we need not run frantically every time if something goes amiss.
2. Here are few requirements, which you need to fulfill in order to install the Android on your PC safely
- USB enabled computer/laptop/netbook, running on any one of the following operating systems: Windows, Linux or Mac.
- Minimum 256MB storage space
- Blank CD or USB flash drive in order to carry out installation
3. Now we will see the list of files that are required to install the Android
- ISO image of Android OS (You can choose the version by visiting this website)
- UNetbootin or any other similar software necessary to make USB drive bootable. (This post might help you: How to make USB drive bootable)
Once you have downloaded both the things, we can head over to next section and that is getting installation media ready.
1. In order to make our USB drive bootable, run the UNetbootin.
2. Also select the DiskImage option and give the file path where you have stored the ISO file of Android.
3. After that, select the USB flash drive letter (option situated at the bottom) and click on ok.
4. Give some time to UNetbootin as it will copy all the files to flash drive.
5. Once copying is done, the software will ask you if you want to reboot the PC or you just want to exit.
6. If you want to start installing straight away then click on reboot otherwise hit the exit button.
If you don’t have flash drive ready then you can also install the Android using bootable CD. You can burn the image directly on the CD using any free third party software or using default CD-burning facility in Windows 7.
So if you have reached so far, good! Now we will head towards installation process. In the fear of stretching one post too long, I have divided the article among two sections. So you can now go to next section, i.e. installation process.
