How to Install Android OS on Your Computer: Part 2
In the first post of this two part series, we gathered all the files required for installing Android on our PC. We also created installation media using UNetbootin and Windows 7 CD burner. We also had a look at all the requirements for installing this world mobile operating system by Google on computer. Now in this post, we will start with installation process.
Installation Process:
1. Now everything is set, so let’s start installing the Android on our computer. Just reboot the computer with flash drive or CD and choose to boot from it.
2. You will get a screen like shown in image once you boot through the virtual drives. You can choose to create live CD (you will have to insert this CD every time in order to use Android) or you can install it. We will move ahead with installation, i.e. fourth option.
3. Once you select the option, within few seconds you will be presented with partition selection dialog box. Here you can choose in which partition you want to install the OS. You can even install the operating system in external drives like USB flash drive but currently we will move ahead with our own drive.
4. Android can be installed within another OS drive or data so you can either format the selected drive or you can choose to keep all the data intact.
5. If you are about to format, choose the file system as ext3 as using our usual fat32 file system we won’t be able to save anything on disk and thus it will act just like any live CD. Therefore fat32 file system is not recommended. (You can use NTFS too).
6. Next you will be asked, whether you want to install the “boot loader GRUB”! Select yes and move on.
7. If you are fortunate enough, you will get the installation screen with progress bar. Now you can relax for some time and can have some drink.
8. Once the installation is completed, you will get the following screen. If you are here, you have successfully installed the OS. You can now reboot the computer and start using the Android on your very own desktop or laptop.
Alternatively if you don’t want to install the OS; you can check it out using the live CD. Let’s go back to step 2 of installation process where we were presented with a screen of 4 choices.
Running Android using Live CD:
1. Select the first options, i.e. “Live CD – Run Android without installation”.
2. Once you select it, give it few moments to load.
3. You will see Android boot screen within next few moments, though I saw that screen for very few moments as my PC booted speedily.
4. Within couple of minutes or seconds (depending upon PC configuration) you will be taken directly to Android desktop.
5. You can do all the things with you Android OS just like any other OS. The only difference between Live CD and installed OS is that you won’t be able to save anything as after power off all of it will be wiped off.
