How to Back Up Your Apple iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch Data
Have you ever been forced to restore your iPhone due to some stupid error? Have you ever updated your iPhone or any other Apple device like iPad or iPod Touch to get newer version of iOS? Well, then you might be aware that when you update or restore the iPhone, all the data stored on iPhone gets deleted. Moreover all the settings which you had personalized gets wiped off much to your annoyance.
This issue can be avoided just by taking one simple measure, back-up! You can save all your data as well as settings by taking back-up prior to software restore or updating process.
This back-up can be taken in two different ways. One is using iTunes software which comes free and other way is using iCloud, Apple’s cloud service (Only for iOS 5 devices).
How to back up your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch using iTunes:
iTunes is the multipurpose software developed by Apple which performs various tasks including acting as a web store or synchronization agent for all Apple products. The same software is used for backing up the data from all the Apple products.
Here is how you do it!
1. Install iTunes if you don’t have it already to your computer. (Download it for free).
2. Now once you have installed the software, start it and connect your Apple device to the computer or laptop.
3. Once your iPhone is connected with iTunes successfully, you will be able see your device in devices section situated at the left bar of the iTunes.
4. If you right-click on the iPhone under devices tab, you will see various options like Eject, New Playlist, Sync, Transfer Purchases, Backup and Restore Backup. Click on the back up.
5. Selecting this option would start the backup process.
6. Once the backup process is complete, you will be informed that the backup is completed. Click on Ok to disconnect.
How to back up your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch data using iCloud (Only for iOS 5 devices):
This process too, is pretty straight-forward:
Whenever you sync your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch to iCloud, it automatically backs up the important data.
1. To use this feature, you first have to enable the iCloud feature on your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch. Go to Settings – iCloud – Backup & Storage to do the same.
2. Once you have enables that feature on your iOS 5 device, iCloud will run backup service on daily basis as long as your iOS 5 device is:
- Connected to power source
- Connected to internet (over Wi-Fi)
- Screen locked
3. Alternatively you can also manually backup your iOS 5 device on iCloud by going to the same path and then selecting “Back Up Now”, from which you can later restore your Apple device.
By following any of these processes, you can back up your data and remain tension free as all your data remains safe.
Note: Backed-up data includes app data, device settings (e.g. Phone Favorites, Contacts, Calendar accounts, Mail and Wallpaper), snaps and videos taken from camera, TV shows, any purchased music, apps and books, messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS), Home screen and ring tones.
