Get Ready For Android 5.0 Jelly Bean – Coming This Fall
Last year, cell phone industry witnessed many radical changes as many new players emerged while some existing ones vanished. Though it is true that Windows Phone 7 looks promising, no doubt Android was the proven game changer last year. The maiden operating system from Google created much more buzz than any other OS. Since then, the craze for Android has been ever-growing with Google’s Senior Vice-president for Mobile and Content, Andy Rubin happily stating that this newbie from Google is witnessing more than 850,000 activations every day. Impressive statistics, no doubt!

In last year, Google also released the latest version of Android names as Ice-Cream Sandwich, although currently only one device is shipped pre-installed with this latest version. Moreover currently, only one percent of Android devices have received this operating system as an update.
Though this is the case that very few devices are operating on Ice-Cream Sandwich version, Google has hinted that the company will release the next major release of Android in coming fall under the code-name “Jelly Bean”. The Jelly Bean will provide extended functionality to tablets running on Android. If you can pick a clue from the statements quoted by Hiroshi Lockheimer, an official from Google, then you can clearly guess the whereabouts of Android Jelly Bean. Here is what Hiroshi Lockheimer quoted in an interview with ComputerWorld:
In general, the Android release cadence is one major release a year with some maintenance releases that are substantial still.
With Android ICS releasing in November 2011, these comments are rather illuminating. Thus we can expect that the new major update might hit the market in coming November with many improvements. But this hint has also given births to many new questions such as what happens with Android Ice-Cream Sandwich 4.0 once new Jelly Bean is out? Because though Android ICS has been in market for 4 months now, just one device (Galaxy Nexus) comes pre-installed with it. So even though Google has won the battle in software department by working round the clock to pack more features in it, hardware department may not be ready for this update yet.
So even if Jelly Bean arrives in November, smart phones and tablets won’t be ready for it and thus they may not be shipped with this update until mid-2013, which is not a very nice prospect for Android users.
