Dreamlinux 5.0 Released – Review And Features
Even though Microsoft is trying to capture great share of of operating system market with the launch of Windows 8, there are users which still love Linux based operating systems such as Ubuntu, Red-hat Linux and so on. Now there are many companies which develop their own flavors of Linux and publish it for downloading. Dreamlinux is one such Brazilian flavor of Linux based on Linux/Debian GNU. It can directly boot into GNOME or XFCE, depending on user’s choice.
Yesterday on January 01, development team of Dreamlinux announced the availability of its new version, 5.0. The development team also flaunted some of its features and by the look of what we have seen and heard, this flavor of Linux is sure to get widespread accolade.
The Dreamlinux 5.0 has an interface similar to another famous operating system by Apple, Mac OS X. It sports Debian Wheezy powered distro features Linux kernel 3.1, updated installer, XFCE 4.8, a much needed boot system which fasten up the botting process, update capability through dis-upgrade and most importantly 100% debian testing compatibility.
On January 01st, Dreamlinux developers posted on its homepage
Embedding Dreamlinux 5 to a flash memory device can be made in three ways: as a read-only image, just like the DVD one, making it ideal for simply boot and install Dreamlinux on internal or external hard disks; as a semi-persistent image, being added to any regular vfat formatted flash memory device, without interfering with the existing files and data; or as the more exciting full-persistent-storage mode!”
And we mean it! You can use Dreamlinux this way without ever installing it on hard disks. It will preserve everything you do in your live session, like installing new programs, configuring Dreamlinux to your liking, and so on.
