Sony Xperia Ion – Review, Tech Specs And Price

At CES 2012, which took place at Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago, along with few other smartphones, Sony revealed its premier venture into the realms of LTE 4G Network, Xperia Ion. Although now Sony has dropped trailing word Ericsson from its name, thanks to its rebranding, Sony Xperia Ion successfully created much buzz at the show.

Xperia Ion is Sony’s first smartphone which has the capability to connect to all new LTE 4G Network. The LTE 4G network allows phones to connect to internet and surf various website at lightning speed (more than a hundred Mbps).

The device sports a big 4.6-inches LED-backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1280x720px resolution for delivering impressive graphics; it is also equipped with a 12MP camera at its back and a 1.3MP camera for video chatting. Many of you must be feeling that the 12 is just a number, but believe me; the rear camera provides excellent picture quality. The camera carries a dedicated button for the convenience of the users.

Although Sony has not made any official announcement related to its price, a famous online retailer Negri Electronics has quotes price of its unlocked version to be around $569 (INR 29K). These 570 bucks will give you a smartphone sporting 1GB RAM, an 1.5 GHz Dual-Core processor, 16GB of internal memory, HD video recording capability and much more. The most important thing you should know about it is; Sony Xperia Ion runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and can be upgraded to Android Ice-cream Sandwich later.

Apart from this, this beauty from Sony also carries mobile version of its Bravia engine to display all graphics. It’s the same engine which is being used in Sony Bravia HDTVs. The Ion is equipped with all latest connectivity capabilities like HDMI port and compatible dock cable. This means users can connect this Xperia newbie to their HDTVs and perform all the things like listening music, watching videos or even sending SMS on their HDTV, pretty cool, eh?

Just like its pricing factor, Sony did not reveal its release date but it is rumored that the device will make its market appearance in second quarter of 2012.
