Frustrated with QWERTY Keypad? Use Gmail Tap And Say Good-Bye to It

Using a smartphone having QWERTY keypad (Touch-screen)? What was your experience with it? Yes, no doubt it is one of the most useful things that come with a smartphone but looking at the complexity it introduces; many people prefer talking over the texting. Though this is a stupid idea, what would you say if someone comes up with a keyboard with just two keys stacked up on it? Can’t believe? View the video and read this post yourself.

Watched the video? How was it? Yes, this idea being pursued by none other than Google. Google has invented a new type of keyboard which is being called as Gmail Tap and which will (hopefully) replace the traditional QWERTY keypad for touchscreen displays.

This new keyboard was announced by Google on its official blog on April 1 (No April Fool here though) which will use finger taps to input text instead the keys. This keyboard will be incorporated in mobile version of Gmail soon.

As the video says, “it’s not cool to have 26 keys crammed inside only two and a half inches screen which adds much more complexity rather than providing pace”.

The Gmail Tap feature is designed by Reed Morse (relative of Samuel Morse – inventor of Morse code), who is a software engineer. He designed this really awesome feature by re-thinking about the Morse code in context of a touch device. You can write any letter, any word or number using just two buttons provided to you.

Though this keyboard really addresses serious problem of crammed keys, the video shows that Google employees haven’t forgotten their sense of humor as one engineer remarks, that the users who will be best benefitted by this keyboards are the users with fat finders.

Keeping jokes apart, let us know whether you have made the use of this keyboard and if yes, how was your experience?
