After months of waiting, Samsung has finally unveiled Galaxy SIII, its next generation smartphone that soon could become its flagship device. So where does this newbie stands when compared to other smart phones from same segment? Before going into comparison, lets have a brief look at their history.

Although Samsung has unveiled Galaxy SIII, company hasn’t uttered a single word on its availability or price. Galaxy SIII is like a new version of Galaxy Nexus but with better camera, more processing power and bigger display whereas Apple released iPhone 4S few months back as a sequel to its iPhone 4 which was a huge hit back in its days.
While we are talking about these two giants, let’s not forget about HTC. It unveiled one of the best devices available in the market, HTC One X at CES 2012.
Now, since we know all the specs of these three beasties, here is how they fare against each other.
Head To Head Comparison:
Detailed Comparison:
Display:
The newly unveiled Galaxy SIII sports a huge 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display. Though the display size is increased in SIII, resolution is still the same as that of Galaxy SII (1280x720px). HTC One X too provides the same resolution as Galaxy SIII but with 4.7-inch Super LCD 2 screen.
If we see, iPhone 4S, it’s equipped with an unimpressive 3.5-inches IPS LCD display (960x640px) but surprisingly it provides the highest graphic density, i.e.326ppi resulting in better picture quality which is unmatched by either of HTC One X or Galaxy SIII.
Processor and Memory:
Samsung Galaxy SIII comes equipped with an Exynos 4 Quad Core processor clocked at 1.4GHz while Apple sticking to their A series processors, provide an A5 Dual Core processor ticking at 1GHz with iPhone 4S. The HTC One X comes with a whopping 1.5Ghz Dual Core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, which adds real flavor to this phone.
If we are to compare the memory options made available for these flagship devices, here is what we get. Apple iPhone 4S runs on just 512MB RAM which is a disappointment whereas both HTC One X and Galaxy SIII are shipped with 1GB RAM.
Samsung Galaxy SIII will be available in two different versions, i.e. 16GB and 32GB (64GB model in company consideration). While rest of the two devices too, come in these versions. However Galaxy SIII holds an advantage over them; it has a MicroSD card slot.
Camera:
In camera department, Samsung hasn’t managed to pull off impressive show as it comes with an ordinary 8MP camera just like iPhone 4S and HTC One X but its most impressive in front camera as Galaxy SIII comes with a 1.9MP secondary camera. Rest of the two devices sport an unimpressive front camera with iPhone 4S is at the bottom. Rest all camera features are more or less same.
So as far as camera is concerned you should opt for Galaxy SIII as it will provide better video-calling clarity.
Operating System:
Samsung Galaxy SIII is loaded with all new Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich OS which makes it probably only third smartphone which is shipped with this version of OS (Others being Google Nexus and HTC One X). So basically all the Galaxy SIII users will have the power of Android apps behind them, which is certainly a plus point.
On the other hand, iPhone 4S comes with iOS 5, which I felt is much more visually appealing than Android. The only drawback of having an iOS device is you don’t have too many options available when it comes down to some app or third party functionality.
As said earlier, HTC One X runs on same version of Android as Samsung but comes with its own flavor of ICS just like Galaxy SIII which comes with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI.
Exceptional Features:
Anyone can guess, what I am going to share when it comes to exceptional features of iPhone 4S. Yes, iPhone 4S comes loaded with a new feature called as Siri, which is a voice assistant designed by Apple. The feature was hailed by millions when iPhone 4S was released. Following the trend, many companies like Google and Microsoft announced their own versions of voice assistant software.
Samsung too, being one of them has loaded Galaxy SIII with a voice assisting agent called as S-Voice. HTC One X doesn’t have any voice assisting feature but has one feature that will be hailed by many. HTC includes a feature called as Beats Audio Integration, which provides best possible sound regardless of whether you are listening music or watching videos. In addition to this feature, One X comes pre-loaded with Dropbox App (Cloud Storage solution).
Conclusion:
If you are one of those people who purchase everything with highest quality, then the only phone that would suit you is iPhone 4S. Apple hasn’t left a single stone unturned in giving iPhone 4S best possible look along with the flock of features. Obviously as quality comes with price, iPhone 4S is available at $199 (for 16GB version) in iStores.
If you are seeking a smartphone that would enable you to use as many apps as you want, then you can choose between Galaxy SIII and HTC One X, as both of them are probably the only top Android contenders in their segment.
