Windows Phone 7 and Windows Phone Mango helped Microsoft set their feet in Mobile OS industry. There were many assumptions being made related to features this new mobile OS will offer, and thanks to the leaked video, we were able to get a glance at them. Integration with Windows 8 operating system, SkyDrive support and NFC enabled devices with variable screen sizes are some of the leaked features of Windows Phone 8 or Apollo as named by Microsoft.
Windows 8 Kernel Use
We are aware of how iOS roots are in Mac OS X; similarly Windows Phone 8 aka Apollo will use code base from Windows 8 that includes Kernel, too. It also includes network capabilities, support for multimedia and security constraints. For those who are alien to this term, Kernel is a software base that allows communication of applications with hardware counterpart. Current Windows Phone 7 is using Windows CE kernel for this purpose.
More Cores and Varying Resolutions
As confirmed by leak source PocketNow, devices running Windows Phone 8 will feature dual-core or even quad-core processors. As announced by Nokia few weeks back, they have plans for releasing Windows Phones with higher number of cores. Also, website PocketNow confirmed that this new OS will support varying screen sizes and thus different resolutions. Currently, users cannot remove their microSD card from device. In other words, microSD card for storage purpose is a part of device but Windows Phone 8 will allow use of removable storage.

NFC for Windows Phone 8
Probably the biggest leap forward is inclusion of NFC support in Windows Phone 8 devices. Near Field Communication is Microsoft’s service similar to that of Google’s Google Wallet. However, Microsoft’s NFC support might allow sharing data with PCs, Smartphones and Tablet PCs.
Windows 8 Integration
This part of feature is sure to yield success for Apollo OS. It is the first step to bring all its services under their new desktop OS, Windows 8 and SkyDrive is the first application on the list. Thanks to cloud sync and SkyDrive, now content on your PCs will be available on your Smartphone and vice versa. There is a bluff about integration of Skype, too. In terms of security, 128-bit BitLocker full disk encryption is offered.
With all these specs Windows Phone 8 is expected to make its debut in Q3 2012 along with Windows 8 Desktop OS. We have to wait a bit longer to get hands on these incredible features.
