How to Remote Control Ubuntu from an Android Tablet
If you are using Linux, or more specifically Ubuntu, then you have got the remote desktop client already installed in your OS. Turn it on and grant full access to your desktop using other devices. There is no need to sit before the machine and drive it; you can also control it from your Android tablet. It is very simple. Here is how it works!
The complete procedure
- In Ubuntu, open “Desktop Sharing”. After the window opens check on the box “Allow other users to view your desktop “and “Allow other users to control your desktop” also.
- On your Android tablet, download and install Wyse PocketCloud RDP/VNC.
- Then run the app and click on “Add Connection” at the top right corner.
- Set the manual connection. Follow by VNC.
- Choose “Windows” under the operating system dropdown. Then give the connection a suitable name.
- Next; comes the Host address. Here one has to enter the IP address for the Ubuntu machine. If the Android tablet and the Ubuntu are under the same Wi-Fi network, enter the local IP of your Ubuntu machine. However, if they are not connected on the same network, and the Ubuntu system is sharing a unique IP address, then configure it with a dynamic DNS.
- After this, hit “Save”.
- Window will be back to the main screen. Click on the “Connect” button.
- You should be connected to your remote machine in less than a minute!
10. Exit Wyse PocketCloud RDP/VNC by simply pressing the “Back” button and it will prompt if you want to exit this session.
Controlling Ubuntu from an Android tablet was easy wasn’t it?. You don’t have to install any other software in Ubuntu for this. This connection remains stable in slow networks also. Although there are other ways to remote control Ubuntu from an Android Tablet, I think this is the easiest and most preferred way.
