Who doesn’t love to play games on big TV screen with accompanying surround sound that fills up living room. Ask gamers to choose between tablet and a gaming console. But not everyone of us is willing to pay hundreds of dollars to buy one. Boxer8 has come up with a solution for you and its worth testing out! Named Ouya, this $99 tagged Android powered game console is certainly not competing with billionaires like PlayStation or XBox360 but it is offering such specifications and controls that will stun you!
The aim of manufacturers is quite clear. They want own games that can be downloaded for free or at slightest cost and with hardware that takes out minimal amount from your pocket. Developers will be provided with system’s SDK for developing their own games. Developers can also set their own price and then sell them on system’s marketplace. However, “demo” versions of the game will be free for users to download and play. If user likes that game, he can purchase it for set price. Prices can vary between $1.99 to $59.99.
Now something about device itself. The console gets delivered to your living room through small set-top box. If you have mistaken its price as affecting factor over specifications, think again! This device follows all industry level specifications with very attractive look. Its small cube like design houses nVidia Tegra 3 processor, 8 GB storage, 1 GB RAM, 802.11 b/g/n wireless connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0 support and USB 2.0 and microSD slots.Company says, hardware and software of this device is made to be hackable so users can customize it with their own requirements. You can root Android and still will hold void warranty. Device’s PCB is made easy to access for those who want to tweak device.
The controller of Ouya is wireless with standard group of control buttons; two analog sticks, direction pad and eight action buttons. To make touch sensitive games easier to play, controller will soon house touchpad. As we said in beginning, any hardware of this device is hackable and so as the controller. You can open it and tweak it as you want to. Ouya developers have guaranteed to publish any extra-ordinary hardware design from their users.
And now about games! As Ouya is built on Android, developers are very well aware of how things work and thus can easily develop game for this console. These games can be monetized by selling at necessary prices in market. And as we know, Android apps are rich with games, we can see similar level of development for this console in upcoming months. Also, you don’t have to purchase any license or SDK as it comes along with price of Ouya, which is $99! For now, many developers have started working on it and results are visible. This Kickstarter funded project has already gathered more than $2 millions in a day.
